Are Filipinos still worth dying for? Part V

A writer once wrote that Filipino heroes and martyrs didn’t die for nothing. Although they knew that the death awaited them should they continue to fight, they held steadfast in their beliefs and marched forward. They all thought that what they were doing was for our country to have a bright future. During the Spanish period, Rizal, Bonifacio, and Aguinaldo fought bravely for freedom and independence. These they achieved albeit short-lived. When the Americans assumed the role of the Spaniards, there came a new breed of heroes championing for nationalism. The Commonwealth saw Quezon, Osmenia, and Roxas who clamored for a true independence from the new colonizers. After the Japanese invasion, the Filipino people began rebuilding the nation. This time around they were the ones in-control of the government. While freedom and independence from the clutches of foreign countries were given to the Philippines, a new form of oppression began.
